Annick Van Driessche Seminar Report
The Annick Van Driessche ladies only seminar was hosted by Elite Taekwond-Do academy in the Castlelands Community Centre on the 24th and 25th of June 2017. Annick Van Driessche is a 6th degree black belt and president of ITF Belgium.
On the first day of the seminar Ms. Van Driessche started off with some warm ups through games and several exercises. She then went on to do numerous sparring drills. She also did first point sparring, and sparring circumstances, always making it very clear why we would use certain techniques when sparring. Ms. Van Driessche also made clear the importance of our personal fitness and balance and showed us
some helpful exercises to help us improve on them, as they are very important when doing Taekwond-Do.
After a 30 minute break we continued the seminar by performing some patterns. Once again Ms. Van Driessche had a lot of exercises to help us perform the pattern better not only when training but also when competing. We then moved on to something a little different. Ms. Van Driessche introduced a creative aspect to the seminar by asking everyone to create their own pattern with at least 10 movements. She used that same creative aspect when doing step sparring and pre arranged sparring. The first day of the seminar came to a close with a few stretching exercises followed by some time we got to ask her questions and learn more about her and her Taekwond-Do achievements.
On day two of the seminar we started off again with warming up exercises. We then started working on sparring, specifically the counter attacks in sparring. We did various drills on counter attacking each one being explained by Ms. Van Driessche. After our sparring we continued the seminar with some stretching exercises followed by some flying kicks.
We took a 30 minute break and eagerly returned to finish off the seminar by working on some self defence with Ms. Van Driessche. I especially liked this part of the seminar because she gave lots of advice and showed us what we could use in various situations. The self defence she taught us was designed for women. She made sure she pointed out our strengths and weaknesses in different self defence situations.
Overall I really enjoyed this seminar and I am very happy I took this great opportunity. Ms. Van Driessche was very creative, helpful and inspirational. I really enjoyed the positive atmosphere during this seminar and really feel that Ms. Van Dreissche not only helped improve our Taekwond-Do skills but also our confidence in performing Taekwond-Do. I definitely recommend this seminar as it really is helpful as well as enjoyable. Personally this has been one of my favourite seminars and I am very grateful to have gotten this opportunity.
